Contracting
As well as being a dairy farming business we also self contract all of our silage with a Claas forager and new series Schuitemaker loader wagons chopping around 12000 hectares annually of grass and lucerne. 700ha of maize silage is planted and harvested annually and 300ha of whole crop cereal silage is also harvested. Harvesting begins in the month of October and continues right through to May each season. Following the end of the harvesting season the contracting division is busy with ground work preparation, seeding crops, re-grassing pasture and general maintenance on the dairy farms. To compliment the dairy farms and contracting division, the Van Leeuwen Dairy Group also has its own engineering/mechanical workshop for repairs and maintenance on plant and equipment.
